ORPIB Day of Service — Oregon Food Bank May 21

Tuesday, May 21, 2024 (9:00 AM - 11:30 AM) (PDT)

Description

ORPIB Day of Service — Oregon Food Bank

Join our group to support Oregon Food Bank in their mission to  connect people with food today and build community power to end hunger at its roots, eliminating barriers to employment, affordable housing, health care and more.

Shift Description: The project depends on the needs of the Oregon Food Bank and its Network. Volunteer shifts can include multiple projects. Volunteers should be prepared for a potentially cool warehouse setting. To keep hands warm we provide liners for the food-safe gloves. The shift might entail one or more of the following tasks:

  • Sort canned and boxed food donations into categories
  • Repack and label bulk food items into family-size portions
  • Cull and sort produce

PLEASE NOTE: The length of a shift is directly related to the amount of food we receive. The end time is the latest the shift will go, but may end earlier.

Shift Requirements: If you are not feeling well or if you have been exposed to or tested positive for the Coronavirus stay home, follow CDC guidelines, and please cancel your shift online or email us to let us know.

The minimum age for this shift is 16. A completed and signed Youth Release form English or Spanish is required for first-time volunteers under 18.

All new volunteers (or if you haven't volunteered in the last 3 years) are required to complete the New Volunteer Application before attending their first shift (including youth and group members). If you are doing these hours for Mandated Community Service, please fill out the application and allow 3 days for approval. Program acceptance is required before attending the first shift.

Shoes must have closed toes and heels (no sandals, clogs, mules, or high heels).

Shirts with sleeves are required. Tank tops are not allowed.

Volunteers must be able to lift at least 5 pounds.

Volunteers should be prepared for a potentially cool warehouse setting.

Volunteers must be able to stand on concrete surfaces for an extended period.

Pre-registration is required for all opportunities; if you are not registered you may be turned away.
