This workshop is free to attend and open to all members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies. Pre-registration is required. (No drop-ins, please.)
First 90 minutes: Personal Safety Workshop designed to introduce adults to a variety of self-protective options in a short, non-physical, discussion format.
The basic workshop covers:
Discussion is designed to help people identify their risks and evaluate their strengths, and to explore their options for dealing with the threat of violence.
Last 30 minutes: Optional workshop on physical escapes and strikes.
Rose City Self-Defense empowers girls, women and the LGBTQ+ community, with a focus on engaging communities of color, people with disabilities, folks with unstable housing, as well as safety for sex workers.
We welcome all cis and trans women as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women and women+ of all abilities. This class is open to ages 13 and above. Young women under 16 need to be accompanied by a participating adult.
This class will be held in the Q Center Auditorium.
There is limited parking, including 2 accessible spots, in the Q Center parking lot. There is ample free street parking nearby. The #4 Trimet bus stops in front of the building at Mississippi and Mason.
Seating available during the less-active part of class on chairs and benches. Restrooms in the Q Center are single-user. There will be hot water available for tea.
